Visual Artist Nikki Balfour

jimmy-and-graHad the pleasure of joining guitarist Jimmy Balfour the other night as we provided music for his wife Nikki Balfour’s art show in Kelowna BC. It is always great to collaborate with other disciplines in the Arts and many commented on how the ambient music we performed added to the presentation of Nikki’s beautiful Artwork.  To check our more of her fine art you can go to http://www.nikkibalfour.com

Tranquility – A New Recording

My vision was to record a long uninterrupted passage of music that would inspire peace and which could be ideal for relaxation, meditation, prayer and contemplation or study.  I am really happy to announce that I have just released the finished work.

The project is called TRANQUILITY (peaceful instrumental soundscapes) It features the classical nylon strung guitar played over beautiful warm pad sounds and a bed of ambient world percussion.

I was inspired to create the music after sensing the level of uncertainty and fear in the news concerning our world. I wanted to make some music that inspired peace and also hope.

The artwork was photographed by my 13 year old son Elias who loves photography.  It was taken at the memorial garden planted in the honour of my dear friend Ingrid.  It was the first time the tulips had popped up to greet the sun.  A fitting image for the project.

The recording is available as a download by following the link below.

Music, Art, & old Motor Bikes

Had a blast the other night at the amazing MotoVida classic motor cycle “emporium” in Kelowna BC. My good mate Jimmy Balfour hosted a party night where he invited some musicians and painters to the funky work-space and we had a blast jamming, painting and socializing with some great friends and family. It reminded me of how important parties are for community.

Three pices of Art at Motovida
Three pieces of Art at Motovida photo by Nikki Balfour

This beautiful photo was taken the day after at motovida. It depicts a couple of art pieces painted during the party. One is by Carrie Mitchell from the HeArt School and the other by Nikki Balfour who also took the photo. I also love that she included the Vox AC15 amplifier which sounded beautiful.  Gotta love summers in Kelowna.
